Merchant Park Developments has recently hosted and sponsored a successful breakfast event with Aycliffe Business Park Community (ABPC). Adrian Goodall, Michael Chicken and Geoff Hunton welcomed guests to give them an exclusive look around the first recently completed unit at Merchant Park.

The event was a great way to introduce the first phase of our £9m commercial scheme that’s helping to reshape the landscape of Aycliffe Business Park. The brand-new building is located on Millennium Way next to Hitachi Rail, and marks the start of a wider 17-acre development that’s set to deliver more than 1,100 jobs across three phases. Planning permission is already in place for two further units of 89,000 sq ft and 126,000 sq ft – underlining our confidence in Aycliffe’s continued growth.
Adrian Goodall explained: “This was a great opportunity to showcase the development to the local business community and talk about Merchant Park’s commitment to regeneration and encouraging job creation in Newton Aycliffe.

The development hasn’t been without its challenges with the impact of Brexit and COVID affecting timescales but with the financial backing of FW Capital and the North East Combined Authority we got back on track and were able to bring the first unit to completion in September.
The building is now ready for occupiers and although we’ve had enquiries on Unit 1 the building is still available and we’re keen to talk to interested parties. Geoff, Michael and I enjoyed meeting members of the ABPC, many of whom were very impressed with the site. “
Merchant Park Developments was behind the original site that attracted Hitachi Rail’s £82m train manufacturing facility a decade ago – one of the region’s biggest-ever inward investment successes. This next development is set to be another landmark site for the region and a significant boost to the local economy.
